The city of Nashville, TN is about a 2 hour and 40 mins drive from where I currently live, so given that I have only driven by on my way down south I decided that I would dedicate a whole day to seeing what it has to offer. What I quickly learned is that Nashville is the sort of place that reminded me of why I prefer to stay away from downtown areas (more on that in a bit). I got into the city at about 9:30 AM CDT and because I love coffee and tea as much as I do tacos and desserts, I did my research and settled on a place called 8th and Roast, the coffee was stellar, but the croissant although tasty was very hard, much too crispy.
So as I said, I got into Nashville at about 9:30AM and straight away I saw what I can only describe as sort of a party bus tractor thing filled with young women guzzling beer and dancing. Within that hour I saw a pickup truck with a trailer party bus and what I now call a basic bitch party bus, all filled to capacity with drunken 20 somethings.
I then decided to visit a park to enjoy my coffee and the sunshine and came upon the Tennessee Bicentennial Capital Mall State Park. It was beautiful and parking was relatively easy.
Highlight of the trip
The best park of visiting the park was the Nashville Farmers’ market. I love farmers’ markets and this one did not disappoint. I got some delicious local honey (it’s sort of my thing, where ever I go I get the local honey), spent way too much money but totally enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
After the market I decided to visit downtown, it was all down hill from there. Navigating the streets, looking for parking was stress inducing. I finally came upon a parking lot and pulled in and attempted to pay and was give a price of $16 dollars for 2 hours. I was over it by then and decided to find somewhere more my speed. I headed across the river to East Nashville and fell in love. I came upon the Fatherland District. Lots of little shops and cafes. Did some shopping, got a nice glass of hibiscus tea from Barista Parlor and headed home. I left Nashville feeling a bit meh, would I go back? Perhaps if I was compelled to.
