Looking For Fall In KY

Beckley Creek Park

It’s Fall Y’all

Fall is my favorite time of year. Being from the Caribbean and growing up in South Florida I never got to experience the changing of the seasons until I was an adult (shocking! I know). I love Fall because it is the time of year when all my favorites are in full swing- apples, pumpkins, cranberries. You know Thanksgiving and all it’s yumminess.

So, October whisked by with little flair and not much venturing outside (1) because it was bloody cold and (2) I was just not up to it. To my delight, November rolled around with much more pleasant weather and I was excited to go out and see what colors Mother Nature has splashed across her canvas. So as any good traveler does before embarking on an adventure I did my research and turned to trusty old Google. “The best place to see fall foliage near me” was my search criteria and to my surprise I got back , Lexington Cemetery. Huh? was my reaction, and as any one of my friends will tell you, I don’t like cemeteries. But as you know my motto is Be Bold, Be Brave, Be Beautiful, Be You, I decided to be brave and set out. On the hour long drive I saw many beautiful colors along the way and across the many horse farms that are plentiful here in the bluegrass region, but I was welling with anticipation on what awaits me at the cemetery.

I must say the Lexington Cemetery is an impressive and massive place. It was very beautiful and a bit overwhelming because of the size of it. There were many people there snapping pictures and making videos, which made me think… hhhmmm I see they also did the Google search. Although I was impress by the beauty of the place, I was not however impressed with the fall colors. Perhaps I went too soon in the season. I will return after the first snow fall, because word on the streets is, it is even more beautiful then.

After about 30 mins in the cemetery I decided to hit the road mostly because I got there at about 3:00PM and was not planning on being there when the sun goes down. So with a bit of disappointment I headed out and then decided that surely I can see more fall colors in the parks near my home, but that was for another day.

Colors in the Park

The park did not disappoint. There were shades of reds and yellow and splashes of green.

To see a drone view of the colors go check out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOG0_K0ss5Y. It was a lot of fun driving around looking at fall colors and getting out in nature.

What are you waiting for?

Get out there and see them before they are gone!
